I constantly get ERR messages with my D80 and Sigma 18-50 2.8 macro lens. It requires a quick on/off to fix.
Is this a known problem? Or just me....

This happens on none of my other lens.

Could be a loose contact on the lens..
  3. Well I had it happen on my D2X and it ended up costing my over $600 to fix. It was a chip problem. Did not happen on all lenses but only a few. It did not help by taking the lens on or off. If your camera is under warranty, I would have it looked out just to be sure.

Sounds like dirty contacts to me too.

The err problem with the D2's isn't that easy, as Jim found out.
You have to shoot another frame, and it clears itself until you
turn it off for awhile. When you turn it on, and shoot the first
frame, err! My D2h has been doing it for a long time.

I'm hoping yours is dirty/loose contact.
  5. MC, Purchase some contact cleaner at a electronic store we have Radio Shack here in the US that sell them. Welcome to the Cafe!
