Am reading some books again and have it reinforced to me that noise, although partly due to high ISO, is also caused by underexposure.

Has anyone tested noise comparison between ramping up the ISO to expose further to the right as opposed to keeping the ISO down.

    Example:
    1) Noise present when underexposing image by 1 stop at ISO 800
    vs.
    2) Noise present at ISO 1600 and no underexposure.

    Thanks for your thoughts
    Dan

Depends on the camera and RAW convertor.

With my D2x, if I limit ISO to 320 and let it under expose and then bring it back in RML there will be less noise than shooting at an ISO setting HI-1.

    Iliah taught me that....
