Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post so I hope I do it right.
I'm looking to get a teleconverter for my 70-200 with which I use a D50, which would be the better of the two or is there that much difference?
    Thanks for any advise.
  2. Hi Phil,

What subjects are you shooting that you would like to use a TC for?

Sean, I go to the beach alot and like to take surfers and also birds in flight, also any animal at a distance.

  4. Ok. The main thing to consider when choosing a TC is that the more 'reach' it gives, the less light it can take in and your shutter speeds have to slow down, etc. Much (and I mean much) has been said also in the debate of how much image quality is lost as you go from the weaker to the more powerful TCs.

So that's it basically; choose a TC that you feel is the right compromise of extra reach and yet retains enough image quality for your shots. Some folks squeeze every bit of quality out of the 2x TCs by using tripods and remote releases also, so that stirs the mix when people get to debating the relative merits of each TC.
  5. I just got the 70-200 and tried using it with a 1.7TC. Quality was not the issue but the auto-focus was killing me. Slow and constantly hunting around. Is this typical?
