Face off

    This garden orb spider had caught a bee (I think) and wrapped it in silk. There were a number of small flies landing on the dead bee, possibly to lay eggs. The spider did not like this and kept shaking the web violently to scare the flies off, but they kept coming back.

    Here it looks like the spider and a fly are having a staring competition.

    Thanks Steve, Alex and Rob.
    I have seen these little flies on spider's victims before, I assume they are laying eggs to let the maggots consume the carcass after the spider has finished with it.
