Hey guys,

Please have a look through my blog.
I have just uploaded some shots from Yesterday's Factory Five Night Ride in Shanghai.

For the people, who don't know - this means 50-100 bikers flogging the streets of Shanghai at night, … fast.

All has been shot as usual with a Leica M Monochrom and Konica 35/2 LTM UC-Hexanon from the back of my bike (much more on my blog):

Great shots :)
Thanks!

Cool shots - I like #4
Thank you Al - the riding was fast and he was not the only one sweating.
But he was about the only one smoking at that crossroad, as we waited for the traffic light to switch ;-)

Excellent and enjoyable series, Dirk!
Thanks Dossy, I am glad, you like it!

Excellent series. The first and last shots for me. As always great black and white.

Samuel
Samuel, thank you - I am again in a major throw back in regards of my B&W development, as I am using at the moment so very different gear in the mix and every bit makes the monochrome shots just enough different to throw me a wrench ;-)

These shots here are done all at ISO3200 or 6400 with a classic optical formula 35/2 lens - looking entirely different from the medium format gear, I am now starting to get used to … meaning I am confusing my B&W look …

Thanks Tri, all shots are taken from the saddle of my bike, while riding at speed except the still shots of other bikes and the portraits, while waiting for the pack to re-collect.
This is part of the fun - I am an old bike nut and not only re-learn my love to cycling preparing to approach into a strong midlife crisis type of thing soon  but also learning new skills like shooting while riding (I don't shoot from the hip, but focus and compose at eye level with manual focus gear, lenses wide open - it's dark night after all).

Cool photos!
thanks

Thank you Bart - I am hoping to connect better and get deeper shots, the more time I spend with this!

A few more shots from the night …

Great set Dirk! Looking great sports at night!
Thanks Rob - the great thing is, that it's at night under the week - so no time for this fun exercise is lost in practice ;-)

Just a thought, don`t they sell bike lights there ? :)
They do, wanna buy some? I can get you a great deal, shipping by container from Shanghai!

Thanks Darren - I hear you!
These night rides really made me find back my love for cycling!

Well done. Interesting series of beautiful images.

As mentioned, the MM does look like a perfect camera for this kind of work. I wonder how my Fuji X100s would have fared?
Thank you Ted!
I guess, the X100 would be just as good, if you can manually focus it.
For the stills and portraits though, the X100 would be a lot more versatile, as you can focus a lot closer! (the UC-Hex only goes town to 1m)

Great additions to the series, Dirk.

I hope to see more of these in the future.
Bart, thanks! You surely will ;-)
