I haven't engaged in much BiF activity but the opportunity for practice presented itself again during my dog walk today. The same guys who were up the hill flying a gyrfalcon a couple of weeks ago were there again today. This time I came across them a little earlier and was able to get a sequence of pics as the falcon was launched against a drone-towed lure. Unfortunately I was hampered by having to shoot towards the sun but it was still good experience. I am very conscious that these results are nothing like those that normally grace this site but it was fun trying and I thought the D7200 and 300mm PF did a pretty good job in the circumstances. For starters, I think I could have upped the shutter speed even more and it would have been good to have had time to get into a position where the sun was over my shoulder but would appreciate any tips. The sequence covers a flight from the falcon being released to back on the falconer's wrist.

your biggest problem is reach

if I can't capture at least 1 sharp eye it's not a keeper
I never shoot a bird moving away from me
Thanks Randy. They might be back tomorrow with a different bird and I'll take my 1.4TC this time. I'm a long way off getting that "1 sharp eye" though and good point re the bird moving away from me. I was just trying to capture the action I guess. Steep learning!
