Falling Flat on your Face - Literally!

I've never understood why they put SO much water on a baseball field before the game. I know they have to knock down the dust, etc., but at the local field for the Gwinnett Braves (AAA), it seems that they almost muddy up the infield. Here's an example to show what I"m talking about. This guy stole second, there wasn't a throw, but he hit the ground and basically came to such an abrupt halt that he whiplashed his head into the ground and bloodies his nose. This is a player for the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs (the Phillies AAA equivalent).

9) However, that didn't stop him from scoring on a single by the very next batter.

Looks lke he just feel on his face in No. 2, looks wierd. Would have liked to see that play from the third base side, nice sequence.
Thanks Brooks. Yeah sometimes I wish I didn't sit right down the base line from first to second just for occasions like this. I'll have to look on the official team photographer's site and see if she got the sequence from a different angle.
