False Color vs. Black and White Infrared

I processed the attached images in two different ways. The first one has all of the processing of the second image, but a B&W layer was added. Which works best for this image?

For me, the second image really pops. This water pattern is much more decernable. NICE!

Perhaps the B&W just lacks enough contrast to bring out the separate elements of the scene....

I agree with Karen about the contrast of the second image. The first image imparts more of a 'loneliness' feeling to me, which may be nice also. So both are nice, but I guess I like #2 in this case.

Okay, as per suggestion, I increased the contrast for the B&W version of the image. I actually increased the contrast by 100% in Photoshop CS5. How does this look?

I really think the increased contrast improved the first image!

That said, I still prefer #2, but now they are both very nice!
