Perfect light for high key images this morning with total bright cloud cover and a reflective snow surface to illuminate the underside of this female red tail.

Their 5 year old nest blew down during a thunderstorm last August and she is busy re-building it as breeding time is near.

Image created this morning in Haverhill, MA.

Nikon D300s, 600VR, ISO 1000, f6.3, 1/800, CW metering, NearuniWB, +2.7 EV

Now THAT is a perfect capture! Great "pre-visioning" the shot and excellent capture and composition!

wow! Wow! WOW!

Does noise @ ISO 1000 affect the detail?

Jim you really out did yourself on this one. Stunning image and so well preconceived. As Andreas said you really nailed the shot. +2.7 EV is amazing. You are the master of these kind of shots.

It really isn't that hard folks.

You need to know when the conditions are correct, know that you can use high ISO for a shot like this and not worry about noise, and learn how to judge quickly how mucg EV you are going to need.

It's very repeatable once you get the hang of it and understand when the conditions are right to pull it off.

I live for cloudy days like this :)
