I will be in Chicago for a few days. What are some suggestions as good places to shoot. I have been to Chicago many times, but I am curious on suggestions as maybe (probably) I am missing ideas or places.

I also would mind some good early evening shoots of the city at sunset or shortly after sunset.

Taking the D700, 85/1.4, Zeiss 35 and 21

Thanks

I have not suggestion for what to visit but definitely I'd take a different kit:

16-35/4 mounted on the camera
Zeiss 50/2
Nikon 85/1.4

Its not the optimum kit and thought of the 16-35/4 and 85/1.5, but as stupid as it sounds I havent shot with the 21/2.8 in a while.

And I may change my mind and go with the original 2 lenses.

Depending on the dates, hancock is great for taking pictures, michigan ave has lots to offer for street shooting and if you're coming before april I'd recommend checking out the Chicago Cultural Center's Vivian Maier exhibit (its free too) The center has some great architecture itself too.

You can also look at my photostream for ideas...

Thanks.

Is that first photo from the Hancock tower? Appears to be the case.

Adler Planetarium for skyline shots. Also Millenium Park, the Water Tower, Michigan Ave Bridge, Navy Pier...

Here is a link to a thread on the same subject.

Have fun; I'll be following you up there in a couple of months!

I was just there - I shot with a D3 and a 50mm the whole week. Plenty of room for sneaker zoom available, even inside the Museum of Science and Industry and Adler Planetarium (the dome is CLOSED right now, arrrgghhh.....)

Got back a couple of days ago. Took the 16-35/4 and 85mm. Shot mostly with the 16-35/4. Just missed the Patrick's day parade on Saturday but do have photos of the Chicago River died green. Will post later this weekend.
