Featured Figure Skating - Pairs/Dance

  1. Here are some pairs and dance from the World Championships in Helsinki last March. We were seated in a corner about 10 rows up - had a great view of the ice!

    Brilliant.

  6. Thanks!

Thanks Glenn. Interesting but a lot of people think the strength is just in the male partner - not true. When you see the woman in a lift - it has been described to be as this.... place a large juice can on the floor and then lay on it with your stomach and stretch your arms and legs out to be parallel to the floor... ouch

    Thanks Ken!

Thanks Walter! Europeans have a much more open stance when it comes to cameras for events like this. They typically have one rule - don't block anyone's view....

  7. Ken - Thanks for posting. It's great to see some terrific shots of figure skaters. The height and position in the twist lift in #9 really demonstrates the exceptional athleticism in modern pairs skating. Very well done.

  8. Thanks! I think she got so high they needed an ATC clearance to get her back down.... You really cannot appreciate the height unless you are close(r) to the ice. And of course, there are rules about how he catches her - she cannot help....

Simply stunning images! What grace and athleticism these athletes possess. And what equally impressive skills on display in these images you have created!

  11. Thanks!

    Thanks for the kind words!

  13. I agree with Wade ^ and must admit you've had me looking at these skating pictures despite my being a self-avowed non-skater. Nice work Kevin.

  14. I'm actually amazed by the calm expression of the lady in #8. All very nice, my fav is #7.

  15. It's hard to believe the height the woman skater attains in #9.
My favorite is #2 specifically because of the look between the skaters.
    Totally wonderful set of photos.

  16. Thanks Wade!

Thanks Nick! I find skating is like ballet, looks dumb until you sit and watch - or try to photograph - then you can really appreciate the strength and artistry that goes into i!.

Thanks! I think the calm face comes from hours upon hours of practice!

Thanks Lew! In dance in particular it is all about the relationship between the skaters - and it starts from the moment they are introduced. Depending on the music, it could be communicating a deep passion between one another - which is difficult when you have ice dance couples like Shibutani-Shibutani (brother and sister).

In a few weeks you will see the best of the best take the ice!
