Well.....after lusting (and saving) for quite some time, I received my 300mm f4, gently used, lens from cafe member Durgesh yesterday. Since it was rainy here today I went over the border to the Bird Kingdom Aviary in Niagara Falls, Ontario to try it out.

I have to say, I think I'm going to like this baby.... a LOT! Thanks Durgesh

Very nice. You will love that lens. I've had mine for about two years and can tell you it is a real price/performance bargin. BTW wait till you have to decided between the TCE1.4 & 1.7 - hard choice (actually I couldn't make up my mind so I got both. If I had to make a choice it would be the 1.4).

Good shooting with your new lens.
  5. Welcome to the 300mm f/4 club.
Beautiful shots. Can ask for more sharpness than that.
  6. Stellar, WOW!!

Man it's a good thing I don't shoot birds or my LL would be off the hook right now. These are truly stunning!!

Appreciate all the nice comments. This lens will be a lot of fun to use. I have a Kenko 1.4 300 Pro DG which, as I understand, is a good match to the 300mm f4.

Unfortunately, today's forecast is for snow and 30 mph wind gusts.:frown:

Can't wait for spring (to really arrive).

It looks like one of the sharpest Nikkors around. It's on the list :D .

Gee you got a bad copy better send it to me right away......rofl

    Quite the lens isn't it:>))))
  15. Sheesh, I can count pin feathers on those shots. Compliments.

That's quite a step up from the long end of your 70-300mm G! Which version is it? AF-S or camera drive?

I'd love to have one, but I don't think I'd get enough use out of it. So my best approach is to borrow Philippes ;-).

This is the AF-S version. You're right. There is no comparison to my 70-300G. Might as well sell it.... don't expect it will get much use now.

  17. Wow,
really sharp shots! I guess the second subject really needs an urgent face lifting... :D  :D  :D
  18. I would love to have this lens but I suspect it will have VR II soon so I'm waiting a bit.
Those are all great, sharp, well exposed shots.
