First Duke Commitment for Next Year

The prep HS in my town has a phenomenal junior, Alex Murphy (ranked #15 in the country according to some, and #11 according to rivals.com) who has given a verbal commitment to Duke, making him the first. All signs point to him skipping his senior year (he repeated his freshman year).

The 6-foot-8-inch forward is averaging 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists for the 16-2 Lions; his older brother Erik plays for Florida.

Went over today to get some shots of him; they have some other pretty good players on the team (they're 17-2 after today).

1. He's already wearing 'Duke Blue' sneakers

Nice shots ...
pretty cool when a "local boy" gets to go to a major sports program like Duke basketball ...
always interesting to see what a local star will do once he gets in with other talented kids from probably around the country .... will he excel or be a benchwarmer ?
We had a kid in my HS who set records for scoring etc. ...was top player in the division etc.etc and went to a decent college team and never got to play ..... there he was just another player ...

Thanks, yeah it's like when I went to college, first day the Prez welcomed us and said that 80% of the frosh class was either a Valedictorian or Salutorian, but in four years, there would only be one Valedictorian (it wasn't an athletic school :)) Will be interesting to see how he fares compared to his brother.

Wow, I think he would look even better in Maize and Blue! Can we get him to change his mind and come to Ann Arbor? Nice shots and great story Chris.
