First glimmer of 2013 D400?

Nikon Rumours released their first mention of solid leads for a D400 announcement, probably in August. I made a decision in January to wait through August (when past announcements have occurred for this line) before deciding what to do. Then purchased a well used and inexpensive D300 to get me through the baseball season. I am fervently awaiting an August announcement and hope NR is correct.

BTW, have we become so jaded on this forum that the Nikon Rumors lead on a D400 can be out there for 12 hours without somebody other than me posting?

I swear that website is nothing more than part of Nikon marketing. If you go back and look at previous announcements this is exactly how they start. Although he's been wrong on some minor details.

We'll see if it materializes -- his track record is pretty good.

I've been putting off getting a D7100 before next school year. May wait a bit longer now...

Oh it's a virtual lock that it'll come out in August. Because I got tired of waiting and bought a D7100 .

So no doubt it will have everything the 7100 has plus what I miss most, 8fps full DX/NEF and 10fps 1.3crop/NEF, 24 frame buffer 14 bit NEF :325:

"D300s successor, a new 300mm f/4 lens and a new DX zoom lens"

My guess:

1) D400 ( ~ $1800)

2) 300mm f/4 AFS VR ( ~ $2200)

3) 16-85 f/4 DX AFS VR ( ~ $1000)

I've just bought a D7100 and a 300/4.
D400 and 300/4 VR are now guaranteed.
I hope the new gear is far too expensive for me to consider - sour grapes anyone?

$1800 launch price for a D400 seems high to me, that's only a little over $200 less then a D600... I'll assume most people will rather fork over an extra hundred or two to go full frame.

I am thinking it's gotta be priced between $1600-1700... it'll be difficult, they have to slot it just right to minimize the D7100/D400/D600 cannibalizing each other's sales.

My experience here on the Cafe is that no one will really sit up and take notice of any given topic until KR voices his opinion. Then all hades breaks loose.

Not me. The D600 doesn't do anything I want from a D400, except for high ISO performance.

The D400 will very likely have a fully weather sealed magnesium body, pro level autofocus (that actually covers the frame), 8FPS+ with a big buffer, and 24MP on a DX sized frame.

The real question is, HOW MANY MEGS? I hope that they offer an "E" version like they did on the D800. Lets see, D400E + 800MM F5.6 VR + TC3-2X = one very happy camper!
