I suspect the AA filter days are behind us as are E versions.
After shooting the d7100 I wish I had got a d800e

I think they figured out that with pixel density as high as the 7100 the natural lens diffraction does the same thing as the AA filter at anything but the largest apertures.

I think they're still available...

I just sold my 2nd d800 and had to eat $500 for a body w/ 3k clicks so I'll stay where I'm at now and the d7100 has taken over a lot of my shooting

Oh it's a virtual lock that it'll come out in August. Because I got tired of waiting and bought a D7100 .

So no doubt it will have everything the 7100 has plus what I miss most, 8fps full DX/NEF and 10fps 1.3crop/NEF, 24 frame buffer 14 bit NEF :325:

OH, yes, one of my friends is a birder, and that is exactly what he is going for.

Any chance the D400 will have pro body with built-in battery grip?

No chance, not even 1 in a million
The d300 signaled the end of that ever happening again, but it would sure be great. It might even make me keep my little d7100 and get a d400. The D400 will be the 1st Nikon product I have ever preordered

you will be shocked at the IQ from the D7100, I know I was......it has me back in the DX game and frankly compares well to cameras costing 5x as much

Think we'll see >24mp on an APS-C sensor??? D400 or D400x??

I don't but 36 would be great, I know, I was maybe the biggest nay sayer when the d800 came out but wow was I wrong.....more = more everything, more image details, more cropability, you name it and somehow the urban myth that more mp-s would mean more noise at higher iso-s turned out to be just that, an urban myth, unless of course you are a peeper

Sweet, sweet music in my eyes and ears - send me the D7100 SOON, my beloved net-pusher!!!!!

I love my D7000, and are happy with the results, but the D7100 should be even better:
I've had both. I predict your 7000 will get awfully dusty

This is really interesting to read, because I am quite happy with my D7000, I have a copy with no AF-problems

Both with D7000 = "The hat" has been used as advertising for Nikon 10.5mm in England and later as advertising of hemi-software in the United States, and the second image (bridge) won a competition,

................so it looks like I will be in heaven about a week or so.

Sorry, Harry, perhaps we are going off topic here, but I can not help thinking about a Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO-Sonnar - some calls it the best lens for 35mm - on Nikon D7100 after seing some pictures here at the Cafe from D7100 = I was not impressed when I saw the first pictures from Nikon from this camera, I do not think they found the way to show the best from this camera, but there seems to be very good photographers here at the Cafe.

Prior comments are no indictment of the D7000. Quite the opposite. I also captured some of my best ever images with the D7k. But the 7100 really is THAT MUCH better. You will have to see for yourself. IQ that it is capable of is absolutely stunning and equaled only (perhaps) by the D800E.

So to get back on topic with the OP, that is why some of us who own D7100 are so excited about the prospect of the D400. If it can retain the same IQ plus additional pro body features it will be Nikon's technical flagship IMO. They have really created themselves a marketing dilemma though maybe not a bad one to have (i.e. our stuff is so good people have a hard time deciding which one of our products to buy).
