I did try, (maybe not hard enough), to find a nice used 500 AFS II f4, but without any luck,. So, I finally succumbed to the temptation and ordered a new one from B&H. This Heron was shot from about 400 ft away right out on my pond's little island. This is about a 30% crop. It really is tricky shooting with a mega-long lens, the slightest movements from bad technique will show up in a blurred shot. I used a cable release for this 700mm shot, and kept the shutter speed WAY WAY up!
