I picked up one of the vivitar/cosina/promaster whatever 100mm macros thanks to Jeff A here on the forum. Arrived today - examples below (with 1:1 adapter on) - I may learn how to get stuff in focus with this thing ....

Macro is certainly a complex skill to acquire, I have probabally 1000 or so "teething" frames with my Sigma 105mm before I actually started to get anything wortwhile.

That said I'm impressed by your initial stuff, you can get some great images when you start to look at the macro level. The cheap lens seems to be holding out great, it is often the case with macro that automatic assistance, particually focusing it useless at this range anyway.
  3. Robert's right - macro sure isn't easy. I'm still poking at it too, with limited success.

Chris, your shots look fine - keep it up!

    thanks Robert, thanks Scott
  5. Nice shots, Chris. Hopefully the lens will now get more use than it did when I had it.
  6. From the looks of those shots your cheap macro is a good performer. The contrast, detail and bokeh look great from here. you are in for some fun.

  11. I love those pictures of the fly, that definitely exhibits your skills, regardless of the merits of the lens! I look forward to seeing more of your pictures and maybe you can share some of your secrets. Kudos!
