Ok I'm going to try and post a couple of pictures, hope they come through. This was my firstshow useing the D3, therefore my first with a Nikon. They could have made life easier if they had agreed on left or right to zoom. What a great camera. I shot with both a 80-200 2.8 and a 70-300 VR. very happy with both. I have not tried my 80-400 VR yet as weight can be an issue working in the arena and needing to move fast most of the time.

Sorry about the size of this photo. I am having a hard time getting a larger
picture on here. This is from our proofing site. I am not a member with
smug mug or any other site. I just have my web site and this proof site.
If you have any suggestions I would live to hear them.

Dale, welcome. Is rodeo what you shoot primarily?

We had a local rodeo come into town a few months ago, and the boss pegged me to cover it. Glad he did, it was a total blast to shoot.

Dale, Photobucket is free and does a wonderful job hosting 200k 72dpi 800x600 files for this site. With a free account you'll have to put up with a bunch of advertisements but its worth the price. Would love to see some of your Rodeo shots. http://photobucket.com

Wow! The pictures came out great. That first one is my favorite with the sharp focus on the bull and cowboys in the background. We have some great rodeos in Saint Paul, I may just have to give it a try...
Thanks for posting these.

Waaayyy better. Enter them in the Sports Challenge.

Dale, I'm still trying to figure out how to read EXIF in Mac, so excuse the question: what was your aperture, shutter speed and lens? I think these are good, very good, and would really pop if it were possible to blur the background a bit more (then again the nature of the action may make it difficult).

I shot the bareback rider at f5.6 and the other 2 at f4. As for the getting the backgrounds to blur I agree they would stand out better, but in my market the customers like to see their buddies in the background and the committees want to read the sponsors signs and banners. It maks my job a bit easier at the higher ISO so we just go along with it. Thank you for your nice comments.
