First shots of High School football...

Discussion in 'Sports Photography' started by gnagel, Sep 13, 2008.

  1. I watched my nephew playing High School football (freshman team) in Mundelein, Illinois a couple of days ago. I brought my 300 2.8 with and was fortunate enough to get good access to the field. It was my first time photographing football (other than my visit to the Chicago Bears' training camp)...

Glenn, with shots 5&7 you are bringing art to sports photography

    Nicely exposed and framed.

  4. Thanks...

I was relieved that it was very overcast as it helped to avoid blowing out the helmets and white uniforms. And, the D700 helped me shoot at ISO 1000 with confidence for many of the images.

Nice work Glenn....If you didn't tell me, I'd have thought you shoot sports regularly.

  7. Thanks Chris...

I enjoyed myself at the game. I plan to return for some more football action soon!

  8. great work, glenn
how did you gain access to the sideline, if i might ask?

  9. Thanks Greg

This was a freshman High School game which was played in the outfield of the baseball field. It's difficult to see clearly in the photos above, but there are no stands--just a few people sitting on their lawn chairs just off the sidelines. It was almost like attending a recreational football game at the local park.

Love the coach towering over the kids, and the sportrait of your nephew. Good shots! The faces are nicely visible through the face masks, too.

  11. sounds great to me
    you surely did well
i like the results... i'm sure you did, as well

    thanks for your reply, glenn

  12. Thanks...

I also have an image of the coach really giving it to my nephew for blowing a coverage (from his cornerback position), but I decided not to share that one...

  13. actually....
i think we'd all LOVE to see THAT one
afterall..... great shots of high school football is all about the expressions

  14. OK...but, I only had the vantage point from behind the coach. It's not the greatest shot. I caught the coach's hand in the frame and then an expression for my nephew. For the most part, he looked like he wanted to disappear. I'm not sure exactly what this expression is representing...

Excellent shots. If this is your first time shooting a game, I might suggest you continue. You clearly have a knack for it.

Glenn this is a very nice series of shots. Love the candid pics.

  20. Thanks Rod...

I really enjoyed shooting the game. I plan on doing more sports photography in the near future. My goal is to get a higher percentage of action shots, though.
