  1. Apart from cropping and straightening these have had no PP work done to them. Shot in RAW and converted to JPG using Capture NX-D. The lens - 80.0-400.0 mm f/4.5-5.6G.

    All comments welcome, thank you.

    I'm on my phone

The 500 should have been 400!.

Nice....I would say that it/you nailed both the focus and exposure in these images! Need to consider the upgrade from my D800.

    Thanks John
I'm getting concerned about ISO 3200, do you have any thoughts yet
  6. It was way to bright for 3200 today, but I will be trying some tomorrow.

    How about anything at home
  8. Looking at #2, it seems that there is more noise than I would have hoped for in the background sky and field, especially at ISO 100. Might it be my monitor? John - does it seem noisy to you on your end? Would you mind having a look at the histogram and see if the image was underexposed at all? I am hoping that it shows that there is a lot of blank space in the right 1/3 of the histo and that explains what I see. At 100 ISO, I would have expected a much cleaner image. Understand that this is not a knock on your photography. Just trying desperately to get a handle on how well the D850 can handle higher ISO's. If that shot displays a "normal" histogram where there is lots of info in that right side, I might be disappointed.
  9. I am at a friends house, but here is one of the cat at ISO 3200.

  10. Bertie looks clean to me.
  11. Finally, a cat picture! :)

Thanks for sharing these John, the D850 looks like a winner to me.

  12. That does look better noise wise, but it is tough to really be certain since there is not that uniform background as you had in the picture of the deer with the smooth expanse of sky and field. That's were noise is more likely to appear.

But the cat fur (both the black and the white) does look promising. Hoping it was just a case of underexposure in that first deer pic.

Thanks for posting the 3200 shot. Keeping fingers crossed.

Pretty cat, by the way. I love to look at them, but I am seriously allergic. Just looking at the photo is making my throat close up.
  13. Looks pretty good John. maybe there is hope for iso 3200.
  14. Rick - light was poor and the shot is showing as slightly underexposed, plus I did crop the shot to about a third. Hopefully the shot I have just added of the cat will help ease fears about the D850 and higher ISO.
  15. Rick, not saying you didn't see noise, but I pixel peeped until my eyes watered and the deer picture looked rather clean to me.
  16. Perhaps I am too severe a critic Nick. I can't wait to get my hands on mine so I can see for myself.

John - many thanks for that followup. The crop and the underexposure may have contributed to what I saw in the deer shot.

Hopefully it was a false alarm
I wish I was at home, it's past 5 there so you know what
  18. I picked his best side! :D

    Thank you.

Rick - just one point about the deer shot, it is not sky but a gravel area, maybe that might explain the "noise"?

    I think so too!:)

    Thank you.

    Thx John
I suspect the gravel threw us off

    We are a desperate bunch

  20. Great shots, I am impressed how smooth an sharp the pics are, more a feeling that you get from a medium format image. Bertie is the essential cat shot, and at 3200 it looks like Nikon has a winner.
