Just got the 105 2.8 VR, so have been experimenting as time allows with that one! Loving it.

Beautiful! I really like the color of these flowers. You are so lucky to have spring arrive early. Looks like you are going to have a fun summer. I can't wait. I have an amazing peony that I am ready for.

I think you might be about 1/3 stop overexposed. I have the same problem when shooting in direct sunlight so I back it down 1/3 - 2/3 stops and it gives better color and detail. It is easier bringing back when editing on the computer if you don't blow the highlights when shooting.

Thanks, everyone. And thanks for the pointers Kingfisher, it's tough getting a nice balance of contrast while maintaining detail and creating an image that pops... definitely don't have the hang of it yet, but will be practicing a lot this spring!! =)

Yes, macro can be a challange. You can stop down too much and have a black background when you don't want one. There's a lot to learn and it is always fun trying new things. I'm definitely looking forward to practicing this spring as well.
