Fishing in Colorado (not quite what you would expect!)

Discussion in 'Birds' started by mikefitz6, May 17, 2007.

  1. I got up early this morning and caught a few shots of 'fishing'.

Most of Colorado lakes are for irrigation. As the snow melts, they start to fill the lakes that have been emptied the previous summer for crops.

I guess Pelicans don't believe in sharing.

The little one that did not get away.

    My favorite

The big one that did not get away. It took 4 tries at swallowing, but that big ole' fish went down.

Wow! Great shots. Did it flip that big one around to be headfirst before swallowing it?

These captures are GREAT! What lake did you find these pelicans? I've been chasing...and I do mean chasing....pelicans in Windsor at Pelican Lakes. Everytime these guys see me they swim away, and my lens is just not long enough to get a decent photo of them. Thanks for sharing your pelicans.
