Here in AZ this is known as a columbine. Don't know if this is right, so if anyone can ID this properly, I'd appreciate it.

doesn't look exactly like the wild one but then there could be a variation given it may be wild. It is similar in shape to the one in my book.

Yes, it is a columbine. They are blooming here in Maryland. I found a beautiful purple and white columbine blooming in the resident garden on the campus of the retirement community where I work. I visited it daily to watch it's development.

There are also a few deep purple and solid white plants blooming. I hope to photograph them next week.

Thanks Greg and Crystal!

I'd like to photograph the purple ones too, Crystal. I hope you are planning on posting the pix of the deep purple ones as well.

Thanks again.

Known in the UK as an Aquilegia-Columbine and part of thr Ranunculeae Family. There are more than 70 species in the Northern Hemisphere. There are very many cultivars and we have nurseries in the UK that specialise in just this plant. One of my all time favourites
Slight Warning. They are ALL poisononous.

Bob,

Thank you for the warning. They are such a delicate beautiful bloom. I will try to study them in more detail next week.
