No idea what it was, not a huge fan of the frame, but submitting it for a weekly challenge on Dev art. Any idea what it is?

Very nice detail on the passion flower. I purchased seeds, but our unseasonable weather will probably make it impossible for me to plant them this year.

What a GREAT shot of the Passiflora. They are some of the most detailed flowers to shoot.

The Passiflora genus has a number of species with a variety of colours and exotic fruits. This one you shot would be Passiflora caerulea but this species has been used in many crosses so there are many cultivars of it.

An extract from the plant is used to treat sleeping problems and nervous insomnia. Although we do not have this particular species in South Africa, the fruits of P. caerulea are claimed to be quite yummy.

Many of the Passiflora are declared invaders / aliens in other countries because they grow profusely and birds spread their easy germinating seeds far and wide, particularly warmer frost free climates.

You can see more of the different Passiflora flowers at this link http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/passion_flowers.htm
