Found this animal track at Bear Point

Discussion in 'Birds' started by Backdoctor, Mar 13, 2005.

  1. it is a quite large and heavy animal. There is a heel print of a large shoe, at least a size 11, just below it. The track itself was deep, so the animal is heavy. I think it may be a panther.

I think it's more likely to be a large dog Harris.

According to eNature.com the tracks of the Mountain Lion don't show claws and there's only about 50 individuals in the Florida Everglades. The images here also suggest no claws for mountain lion tracks. Yours has fairly long and obvious claw marks.

Besides your image looks very much like the one of a dog here.

Of course, there's every chance I'm wrong. I'm sure there's someone more expert than me here. Especially given my expertise isn't in wildlife tracks, but more in Google. :D

  3. I have seen these tracks there for a while. Most tracks didnt show claws, some did. This is way too big for a dog, if it is a dog, its quite a big one. I'll have to see. there's been lots of heavy equipment at bear point, it may be flushing out some wildlife.
  4. except for the claws, looks similar to the mountain lion tracks in your link.
