I did use a tripod. I think the shutter speeds were down around 1/4 sec, but I was also shooting at 200iso. I shot those in jpg, but it was more or less a quick and dirty experiment. I'm heading down to the coast this weekend where I'll be shooting a ton, and they'll be raw. Really happy with the results, though.
I've also used the X100 a little bit for IR. Here are two from my most recent IR trip. I'm happy with its IR performance. Thanks to the excellent high ISO performance, that whole session was actually shot handheld from 1/30-1/60 seconds at ISO 800-1600. No problems at all in broad daylight!
I couldn't get hold of one of those popular Hoya R72 filters, but these were shot with a near equivalent from Germany - a Heliopan 715 filter attached via a filter ring adapter.
