GBH Lunch Time

Discussion in 'Birds' started by James_I, Jun 18, 2007.

  1. On my lunch hour today I managed to catch the local Blue Heron having a quick bite of it's own. Just a few of what I was able to capture (I managed to get a whole strike series, thank you D200 @ 5fps  which I need to spend some time working on). He/She was snacking on some smaller appetizers and then speared this larger fish. After dropping it back in the water and spearing it a few more times, it finally decided it was time to gulp it down. These have been cropped as he/she was some distance away. BTW, if anyone can chime in on how to tell a male GBH from female, I would be interested to know.

Nice series James. Good question about how to tell a male from a female. I would be interested to know also.

Ahem, I believe you can lift the heron's tail and take a peek.

  12. Not sure he/she would appreciate that

From what I've read, generally the male is larger than the female, although not much use if you can't catch 2 together.
