I want to sideline in weddings & portraits and my gear is listed on my signature. I do products so those MF lens are just fine and also for portraits. If the D700 is not here this is an easy decision for me. I know there are other options but I only want opinions on these specific items.

    1) D700 + 70-300VR + 28-105mm (mine is just as sharp as 24-70 from f5.6)
    Or
    2) D200 + 80-200mm AFS + 17-55mm.

The slow speed of 28-105mm & 70-300mm can be compensated by higher ISO of D700 and the lack of AFS in 28-105 hopefully can be improve by stronger AF motor of D700 (?). The D200 + 17-55 + 80-200 is a better value but I have read quality control issues on 17-55 missing focus and if I get a dud the D200 has no AF fine tune. Does the D700 has it?

In weddings, how often do you shoot @ f2.8? For my parties and family events I mainly shoot at f5.6 and fill flash.

  2. Flash is a no no at some venues.
FAST glass wins hands down here. Camera body much less IMO.

D700 has fine tune. I'd go for D700 + 24-70 if you can, it's the best combo for weddings IMO. The 28-105 AF will be noisier and not as fast as the 24-70. AF is always faster with faster glass, especially in low-light situations.

  4. or D300 with 17-55 2.8

I did my first wedding two weeks ago and used the D3 & 24-70 2.8. Great combo!
