Getting Rid of Halo's: Help Requested

This is a second go around with this picture, given that I just installed CS3. (I tried the cloning out of the background and my skill just didn't manage it, so I thought I would try this....)

I created a new layer from the background, extracted the folks in the foreground, then using the Magnetic Lasso, selected the folks again and refined the edges. I then blurred another layer and adjusted opacity so that the team would stand out. So far, so good, I think.

However, I have a slight grey halo around the team. What did I do in my selection to create this? How do I reselect and get rid of it?

The image also needs persptctive correction

The original is a very nice image. I would if mine ,correct the perspective
crop the image
sharpen a bit
and print it for the winners:>)))))

The halo appeared before sharpening (tried to sharpen the layer only, but for some reason it wouldn't let me).

I did blur it, however some more blur, possibly a gradient blur would be better I think. (I used lens blur on the background). Thanks for the comment

An easy way to correct this is to use your history brush. Select a baseline where the halo did not exist and simple use a small history brush with a 50% opacity and go around the areas where you want to remove the halo.

I think this is a fine image. I cloned out a couple of distrating things.
High pass sharpened and sized 10x8.
I don't know how to get rid of the back ground or blur this one. Did not work for me. I am not a PS guru:>))
