I went for a walk-about with the Nikon 1 V2 on a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRII. Found this Giant Swallowtail and made some photos.

Mirrorless more portable

Beautiful work!
Does the mirrorless system help with these, or is it just more portable?
Thanks, Fred

I often use the Nikon 1 V2 when I want to have a light weight hand held system for an outing. I use a Nikon D800E on a tripod if I plan on making photos for printing or publication.

What do you need to connect the V2 to nikon full sized lenses like the 500VR?

As someone said, you need the FT-1 ! .....but mind you: you will have a 500x2.7 = 1350 mm. combo in you hands , so you'll need a real STURDY tripod, even though you can use the VR !
