Gitzo tripod legs are too tight - now solved

I'm happy to report that the problem is now solved. I dug deeper into the back of the closet I searched yesterday and found another Gitzo box. :)

This was the correct box for the tripod in question; the box I found yesterday is for my older tripod. In the correct box I did find a plastic bag which included instructions, two Torx wrenches, and a tube of lubricant. Using the two wrenches to loosen the screws just slightly solved the problem. The legs now open with just the right amount of resistance.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Congrats Jim - the ability to repair Gitzo's has always been a nice thing about them. I still have a very heavy aluminum Gitzo from the early 70s and it's still perfect. A local camera store gave me new rubber about 20 years ago and they're still good.
