So tomorrow I'll be going to the 49ers vs Chargers preseason game. My seats are lower level, so I'm pretty close to the field. All I have to shoot with is a D40 with 18-55 kit lens and 55-200 lens. This is going to be my first time shooting a football game at night. I've shot at the 49ers training camp, but I wasn't really happy with the results. So I'm asking for any helpful tips so I can come back with some decent pictures and I'll be sure to post them here. Thanks!

Samples. This was taken from where I was sitting.

  5. I love my 9ers! Haven't had much to root for the last few years, but I'm still a fan.

I'll be at the Cowboys vs. 49ers game in November. The only NFL game I ever go to as a fan is the 49ers vs. Cowboys. It's amazing how many 49er fans there are in the Dallas area.

  6. Hey Jason,

This is a bit late, but maybe you'll go to another game.

Just have fun shooting! Be mindful of your settings and chimp often. Your 55-200mm is a VR, right? Adjust your ISO for the stadium lights and maybe think about your composition and how you would like to interpret the game. I don't how often you go to 9er games but walk around Candlestick and try to capture the ambience of such a historic park.

No it's not VR actually. But I'm definitely going to more games, this is just my first time bringing my D40 to a game. Thanks for the tips Randy.
