Goldfinch on sunflower

I was waiting for a hummingbird when this goldfinch landed close by. My ss was at 1/5000 and I am not adapt at quickly changing ss and iso so they came out quite noisy. I used topaz denoise on the bg to get rid of some noise. I tried it a bit more aggressively but did not like the result.

Wow! Not bad for ISO 40,000!

My next-door neighbor hoped I would be prepared for photographing goldfinches on her sunflowers and was not happy to learn that I don't have the long glass needed to make good images of them.

That always is a problem. You can’t have too much glass.

I'll see how many birds come around this year, which is the first time she planted the sunflowers. Depending on how that turns out, I might rent the proper glass next year.

Nice images.
It is an amazing time to be a photographer!!
Noise is rarely an issue anymore. The sensors are better, the noise removal softwares are terrific!
Colors here look pretty good- at least for the web. The loss of dynamic range and color renditions are the main issues I still have with high iso's.

Well Alan, I'm old school, coming from decades of analogue photography.
I always forget to change the ISO value and - to reset it after changing it...
Don't ask how many pictures were lost by this.
