Gone fishing ..... and netting the catch .....

    Sorry! More pelican shots, but they will only be around for another few weeks......
    By spending some time watching them behave, we sometime actually see them fishing successfully.

    The lower part of the bill is very flexible. The openning you see is actually part of the bottom part. It looks just like one of those fancy hand fisherman nets.

    These were taken right in Calgary. Another month or so and they will be gone. After that, will have to go to some of the lakes in southern Alberta to be able to catch them. Also it will be very hard to get close-ups.
