There is just something about this lens... I just love it. If I had to pick a favorite lens for all around use the 17-55 is it. I have the 24-70 too... but the 17-55 just fits better. Not crazy about the length of the 24-70... a bit awkward to me.

    cute kids, and beautiful photos!
  3. Hey Don,
I could not agree more. The lens just "feels right"...hard to explain. The 24-70 is nice on a FF body range wise but it is not all that wide on DX.

Agreed, Don!! The 17-55 is the only DX lens I kept for my D300 when I added a D3 and D700 to the mix.

Great images of 2 awesome kids!

Great shots! I love my 17-55, how is it on a FF body?

... and the 24-70 is also not that long on FX.

You guys are correct and the lens just "feels right"... especially on my D300 compared to my D80 when I had it. Great shots BTW!

Cute kids... I also love my 17-55, it performs quite well wide open compared to my 28-70.

I'm thinking about this lens and debating it with primes.
  11. I totally agree Don. I have bought and sold this lens twice, replacing it with the Beast, twice, amongst other lenses.    But, in the end, I purchased a another 17-55, new, for my D300 and I couldn't be happier. The Beast is an awesome lens, but the 17-55 lives on my camera for landscape and candid photography. It also helps me maintain my super-reduced kit, 10.5, 17-55, 70-180 micro and 300 2.8.
  12. I really miss my 17-55, which I sold along with my D300 to pick up the D700. I can imagine getting one again soon though. Just fantastic shots.
  13. What's not to love?

  14. nice shots
the 17-55 is glued to the D200... but, the duo rarely gets used since i bought the D3

in fact.... the zoom ring is VERY STIFF from DISuse, i guess
i don't remember it being that way before... maybe i'm wrong

    Hi Don,
I startes out with the Nikon 12-24, which was a pretty good lens. Then I bought the 17-55mm primarily because it was faster, but I have to say that I feel more comfortable with with it than anything else I own. As others have aid it just feels right, and encourages you to use it! Nice shots of the children!

    good luck,

beautiful children and a wonderful lens...;-)
  17. Different strokes. I've always been partial to the 24-70mm focal length and after trying one I am in love with it. 17-55mm doesn't do it for me and is less versatile for my shooting style.

For a long time I've found that my taste was different from others and I've always preferred longer than wider for everyday and walk around lenses.

I guess I'll see how I feel when (not if) I go full frame.

    So Cal
The 17-55 belongs in every DX kit.

It was my favorite DX lens.

    I definitely miss it.
  19. Not in my kit Dawg

Give me a 24-70mm on DX and I'm a happy camper.

    So Cal
That 24-70mm is going to fit nicely in my FX kit when I land the D3.

I still miss that 17-55 though.

It was always on my D200/300 and took incredible pics.
