Graduated ND filters

Discussion in 'General Technical Discussion' started by dmwphoto, Jun 17, 2005.

  1. I am wanting to get some graduated Nuetral density filters in soft and hard edge and various stops. My problem is trying to figure out what I need in the way of a filter holder and if any ring adaptors are required. I will be using them on nikon lenses with 77mm objectives. Any advice?

    Dave,

I use the Singh-Ray grad ND filters: http://www.singh-ray.com/grndgrads.html. I use the soft stop filters in 2 and 3 stop densities. That seems just right for typical landscape scenes that require bringing down the brightness of the sky. I use a Cokin P-series filter holder (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...amp;A=details&Q=&sku=14265&is=REG) with a 77mm adapter ring (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...amp;A=details&Q=&sku=14096&is=REG). The latter two items were available at my local camera equipment store but usually are in stock at B&H. The Singh-Ray filters are expensive and scratch easily but they are excellent optically. Hope this helps.
