    Thank you. These were taken with a 600 f/5.6n AIS lens. Although the birds are now sufficiently distracted by their familial chores to usually tolerate approaching closer than the near-limit focus of this lens (around twenty feet), I had backed away another ten feet or so to try to get some pictures of them flying in/away from the nest hole. (I got some near-misses, but nothing post-worthy - not easy with a mf lens!). By no coincidence, that's also where the nearest shade was from the stifling midday sun here on the 4th.

    I don't know how to numerically quantify the crop percentage, so here's the full frame of a shot from the same vantage:
