GSMNP Wild Flowers Are Showing UP

At the southern extreme of the GSMNP the wild flowers are beginning to appears. Specifically, I was in the Hiwassee River Valley between Reliance TN and the Appalachian powerhouse this morning. Yellow Trilliums were just breaking through the soil and others where already in full bloom.

Such as this Columbine. Middle of next week should be good.

Beautiful photo, Roy. Your flowers are way ahead of ours. We went out today and only found a few hepatica trying to open but not succeeding. Then we had snow showers this afternoon.

It will be a month before we see columbine.

Could have been the water was great, a little high maybe 3000 CFS my guess. There were two drift boats I saw. But my fishing ended 3 years ago when the last wrist was fused with a 8 inch steel plate and 6 screws. Arthritis is a bit of a pain.

Sorry to hear that. I'm still playing tennis but have wrist problems. We live on Lake Cherokee and the water is still high for this time of year. I'd like to do some wildflower shooting this year. But I think it is still pretty early on "this side" of GSMNP. Keep us posted.

Ours are not supposed to be blooming either. The old general rule was March 15th the last significant snow and April 15th the last snow. We haven't had a 32 degree morning temperature in a month. I have already had to mow the grass three times this year. Winter here this year was a two week period in January.

Wonderful work so colorful, we got 3" of snow last night but suppose to be in the 50's tomorrow
