Hard drives on MacBook Pro

Discussion in 'Apple/Mac' started by Allan, Aug 17, 2008.

  1. I want to edit my D300 images with Nikon NX and Photoshop CS3 on the road so I will get a MacBook Pro after the new round of updates come out.

Will I notice the difference with the 200 7200 drive vs the stock 250 5400 drive? I could use the extra size but if the speed will make a difference that is the way I would go.

    Just looking for opinions.

THe 5400 should be fine, the 7200 would be good for video...

I'm not sure what the MBP updates will bring, but upgrading the RAM to 4GB will be much more noticeable than a HDD rpm increase. Don't upgrade from Apple though, of course. Try newegg, OWC or Crucial for the RAM, much less coin (mine was $89). With that said, CS3 screams after the 4GB upgrade.

  4. I have 4 gigs on my desktop and will have 4 on the laptop too. I hope the new processors are 3.0 mhz as that is what is on my desktop.
I have had that for 2 years now so for me the laptop won't scream, but it won't speem something the Sloskis would use.

I am not crazy about 7200 rpm drives on portables.

    1. they get hot
    2. they kill your battery
