Has anyone used the TC-200 with a 300/4?

Searched around the web but couldn't find sample pictures of this combo.

So I'm turning here to the #1 Nikon source for lens/gear lust advice!

So if anyone here has any opinions on this combo or even better have sample photos that would be great.

Thanks again!

Assuming you mean TC-20E ?

I tried one on my 300 f/4 AF-S, but sharpness was not great. In fact, if you use a TC-17E and crop the image to the same 600mm FOV, you can get a better result.

The TC-20E is probably only applicable to the exotic teles, like the 200/2, 300/2.8, or 400/2.8.

The TC-200/201 was intended to be matched to lenses of 200mm or less. The TC-300/301 is its companion and was intended to be used on lenses 300mm or longer. Both are apparently used by folks in ways they were not intended and it may be that a TC-200 will work quite nicely with a 300/4. Whichever you use, keep in mind that you're beginning at f4 and adding another 2 stops so you'll need very good light.

Oh, so I see you have the older 300 f/4, sorry!

If you want to retain AF with the TC, look into the Kenko Pro 300 DG TCs. The Nikons are all MF.

But IQ with a 2x TC will never be great, in particular on a 12 MP crop sensor.

Cheers
