What a great sequence! I love seeing stuff like this. My goal is to be in the right place at the right time to catch a sparrow riding on the back of a hawk. They really do that sometimes - I've seen it happen twice in my neighborhood.

Thanks everyone. I was pretty amazed watching this rolling battle that moved through the sky around me for several minutes. I talked to some fisherman on my way back to the car who said they had been at it for several times over the day. We've had so few warm sunny days the last month, whenever we have one there seems to be a lot of competition for areas where ground squirrels are prolific. Most of these shots are with ravens, but the vultures will pursue and attack a hawk as well. I don't know where the ravens came from, we don't normally have them in this location.

I would love to see a sparrow ride a hawks back! That would be awesome!

Thanks, they were back at it yesterday, but I only caught a few shots in the very dark ominous sky, then they rolled out of sight. I'd go back up today, but we're having some pretty heavy duty weather.
