I somehow like this image BUT

    1. would you crop it and if so, where?

    2. Would you make into a complete silhouette?

    Would appreciate ideas and advice

  2. i'd leave it. it looks good the way it is :)
  3. +1 for leaving.

Ray, I would crop it as she is either riding out of the picture, or riding in to the picture. The rider is a little bit too centered right now to make it interesting, imo.

Also, the crop is slightly too square...once again I think you would tell more of a story if the crop was more rectangular.

Hey Ray, This is what I would do:

    1. Cropped kind of like Linda's.
    2. Ran NeatImage on the sunset part to the sunset to mesh the colors(but a regular blur would probably do it, I was just playing around with my new toy.
    3. Reduced exposure on subject and FG to make it more of a silhouette.

After I did that and put it online, I thought that it needed help in the color sat deptment so I opened the new file in ACR and boosted the vibance and saturation sliders by 10 and the recovery slider a little.:

    Hope this helps.

    Linda and Steve

I really like both of these and a good call re centering etc...

    Love the more vibrant colour...

Appreciate the feedback.....think I like this way!

    Best wishes

  7. I like Lindas crop ....... not sure about boosting the saturation etc.

To me and my screen, it looked to be a little blue, so I wanted to bring the orange out. So that's why I boosted the saturation and vibrance. It could just be my screen, but that's the way it looked.

Two variations on the same theme:

Recrop. Set black point on riders hat. Hiraloam sharpening. Increasing light in shadow parts. All done in Lightzone. Aftwerwards noise reduction with nik Dfine (noise reduction in Lightzone VERY basic) and high pass filtering in CS3.

The same as above + B/W variation using nik Silver Efex Pro.

Comments and critiques welcome (just donned my asbestos suite)

I liked the original, but then I also liked the way LindaZ cropped the image. Very good point about making it more interesting.
