Help identifying birds from Palo Alto Baylands

    I'm a complete novice at identifying birds. I went to the rookery area of the Baylands and saw a bunch of Snowy Egrets(?) and Night Herons. There were also these curious birds with round beaks wandering the dirt paths. They seem to have a peculiar grouping behavior. They congregate in groups, then one breaks off, then others follow, but not always. I haven't studied them long enough to figure out if they have a pecking order. Their pecking order might have to do with the markings on their beaks, "Nikon" or "Canon". :biggrin:


    Not too shabby a day for the 70-300VR. I've definitely seen better here, though.

    Pretty sure the Nikon birds are at the top of the pecking order.

    Nice birds, and that looks like gorgeous weather! Wish I was there.
