Can't seem to find this guy in any of my bird guides. Would appreciate any suggestions.
This looks useful Confusing Domestic Ducks
I think it's a Hybrid Mallard
We have so many flavors around here
I posted this picture in another forum that I frequent, and someone responded with the same reply. Interesting, I never considered a hybrid.
That's what it looks like to me as well - a hybrid between a domestic duck and a mallard.
I'm in no way even close to being an expert on animals but I have seen
many hybrid ducks over the years from Mallards mating with Domestics.
There can be many different results/patterns from this...
A couple of years ago I photographed something similar, posted on a local Birding Mailing List called Tweeters, and this is what they told me it was. A Manky Mallard. The trick is to figure out which part of what Duck came from where, I think of it like Heinz 57 on steroids. Obviously Mallards aren't particularly choosy.
So, Jerry, I'd say that is one impressive Manky Mallard!
Thank you all, for responding. Just learned something!
It is definitely a hybrid / cross breed. There are some mallard / muscovy ducks ducks around here that have to be some of the ugliest things around. It makes that one seem like a beauty.
I kinda like them, a very calm duck
OK, that is one seriously ugly bird; By the way, James Brown just called; he wants his hair back.
we should turn this thread into the prettiest bird contest
(my apologies for posting 2 pics to the OPs thread)
Does anyone remember "MR Ducks"?
Yup, sure do. MR Ducks
MR Not Ducks
Ya best me TUIT!
MR Not Ducks
MR2 Ducks. CDEDBD wings?
That's really beautiful, in a bizarre, Muppet kind of way. What is it?
a King vulture I think wo looking it up
From my learning, the Mallard is the only wild duck that will cross breed with domestic ducks.
