help with ID please

Discussion in 'Birds' started by dmwphoto, Nov 27, 2005.

  1. This is a sparrow, but I am having difficulties with the specific type.
My closest guess is chipping sparrow, but the crow should be more chestnut in color. I also think swamp sparrow but the eyeline is not right. I am using audobon book, any help appreciated.

    Haven't a clue Dave
but it's sure a good sharp and detailed shot!
  3. Sure is sharp and exposed nicely.. lookes like fill flash?

Nope can not help with the ID, but if you post it on another site like

you might find someone who can give you a ID of the birdie...

Was that with the 200-400 atnd TC?
How much of a crop is it from the original?

  4. Looking through Sibley I think you first guess is right Adult non-breeding or first winter juvenile chirping sparrow.

looking at my books.. would have to say its a chipping also.. sparrows are so hard to tell apart... nice pic..

  6. Dave and Tim, I appreciate you looking at your guides on this. I would say from the eyeline that is most likely the correct ID.

It was taken with the 200-400 with 1.4 TC and fill flash. approx 50% crop
