help with liquify - i can't see what i'm doing? solved!

I must have a setting incorrect, can anyone help me? i can't see the changes i'm making in real time, i have to accept the changes i've blindly made & then I can see them when i exit the liquify filter.

thank you! - oh no, wait, i tried that and it hasn't changed anything, i still physically cannot see the changes as i'm making them. i also checked the see mesh to see what that would do and i can see the mesh change but i would like to see the whole of the changes.

Have you tried by turning the check box on or off next to Show Backdrop.
If the Show Backdrop is checked then a play with Use, Mode and the opacity slider may help
