Critique Heron (Adirondacks)

I'm not sure which version of the shot is stronger. While the tighter crop makes it obvious what the subject is, sometimes I feel like the wider version gives more ambiance with the trees in the background. What do you think? Addition CC is welcomed too!

You will get lots of opinions, everybody has one and they are most often worth what you pay for them.
Personally I like the first one, the world has plenty of close up shots of birds. But yet, I take still take them close up as well.
It really will depend on how the image is going to be used, and often what other images it will be displayed with.
