    Hi Y'all,

I have learned that it pays to sit with a bird when it isn't bothered by your presence. It takes some patience but you get to observe them doing their thing. Here's two series I shot while shooting with Popeyeand Huan at the Viera Wetlands.

First we have the green heron. He's very patient when he's hunting and shows very little movement.

if he spots something he moves in a little closer

    prey spotted he strikes

    success

    finally, the Reznick Flip
    [IMG]

the tri-color heron like the green heron is usually a quiet hunter
    [IMG]

he will get down when he's ready to strike
    [IMG]

he too will do the Reznick Flip

You are just getting too darned good!

One thing I've found is that it is definetly harder to catch flip shots with the X at 5fps...for me anyways.

    I can't wait for an 8 or 10MP 8fps offering from Nikon!

  3. You have a couple of very nice series here Harry. Keep 'em coming! (And I'll send you some pictures of snow in return... )

Thanks so much Jim. I've captured a few flips and never knew I was catching it when I took the shot. It happens so fast that I almost never see it happening. You have to getting off a sequence to capture it.

Thanks Jim. I would love to see some pictures of "snow". It would help if you could explain what this snow stuff is.

    Hi Harry -

Wonderful shots! I'm not sure we can give you full credit for the RR flips though when the fish is less than 1" long. Looks like I'm gonna have to bring my TC-17 so I can play way out there with you!

BTW, I could leave my camera at home and watch birds like this for hours with binocs, they are so beautiful.

It's the stuff that makes your birds leave us and come to you in the winter...

I don't blame those poor birds for hitting the road.

Thaks Louie. The only way I have ever caught a flip is by sitting on a bird that is in hunting mode and then firing off a series of shots when he move in on a target. The flip happens so fast you I couldn't catch it if I was waiting for it.

    hey Gordon,

Give me a break here. I can't help it if they were catching small fish that day.

I agree with you about watching the birds. There have been moments when I put the camera down just so I watch them w/o something distracting me.
