You are making the same point that I did a couple of months ago with my 'Alien Flower' series. You can definitely get some excellent close-up shots with a good medium telephoto as you have illustrated so well here. 8)

Dave, these are all excellent photos!!! ...but lets us not confuse close-up with macro :roll: even with the 500D...
You're doing good keeping that 105micro... ;-)

Nice stuff Dave. I did some similar shots of a Butterfly with my 24-85mm. Still, I think I'll keep the 105 Micro.

I prefer close ups persoonally to macro for framing etc.
