Looks like Vimeo is the defacto standard, and probably the one I'll go with once I get ahold of a v-dslr body.

What other good choces are out there? I realize that YouTube, flickr, etc are now hosting HD video, too, but I'm thinking with a slant towards a creative community instead of simply a mass host...

I tired hosting flash video myself on my web site but the files were too large and bandwidth too demanding. It's possible using Adobe Flash Video Converter and Dreamweaver. I ended up going with Vimeo Plus and now I just embed it. It's the best service I've found.

I host my own stuff for HD video; for regular web video I like Viddler better than Vimeo or YouTube; the Viddler player is more customizable for page embeds than Vimeo, or at least it was when I checked last. They also don't have a time limit on videos, just an overall file size limit and my need is for longer playtimes.

You can also do RTMP hosting for Flash video - it will run you at least $20 a month.
